🏨 Christmas Party Venues
The first thing to do is to choose where you’re going to have the party, the venue. Of course you can have your holiday party at home. It just depends how many people you’re going to be hosting. So if you’re having more than just family over, you might want to look into some other options.
If you’re in northern Utah, Ogden is home to The Copper Nickel is just off Washington St in the heart of downtown. This is an awesome venue because of its location, ambiance and size. It can be a very intimate setting or feel roomy. Also, try Hub 801 in Riverdale. Located just off of Riverdale Rd and Washington. This is also a very cool place to host your Christmas party as it is somewhat rustic and big enough for a lot of people, but still cozy.
If you’re in Layton, the Davis Conference Center might be used for a large office party but they have smaller rooms too. There are several hotels close by if you are wanting to check out the area. See my blog about Hotels near the DCC. Next, Chantilly Mansion in Layton is an beautiful venue for not only your Chrismtas party but also weddings.
If you’re closer to Salt Lake City checkout Pierpont Place or Edison Street Parties. Pierpont Place boasts “Full service, flexible and fun! The venue is a blank canvas and can be transformed into any vision imaginable. From corporate events to weddings, birthday parties, theme parties and more, the talented design and planning team will dazzle, tempt, and impress you and your guests by creating a one of a kind event. This would make a wonderful venue to host your Christmas parties.”
🦌 Christmas Party Themes
The next thing you want to do is come up with a theme and there are tons of choices for themes. I came up with three however your choices are limitless.
How fun would it be to do The Amazing Race theme for a party? My daughter did this for a high school homecoming dance and she had a blast. The idea is you divide up into teams of four (more or less depending on attendees) and you do a scavenger hunt with clues at each location for where to go next. The team that gets back to the party venue first win and you might have a prize waiting for them. This theme definitely takes some planning by the host but is a blast for everyone.
The next theme is the very traditional Ugly Christmas Sweater party. Everyone wears the ugliest Christmas sweater they can find or make. Sometime during the party you hold a fashion show and then vote for the “winner”. This is a great theme to keep the party light and fun. If you are looking for places to buy an ugly Christmas Sweater, click here.
The third theme is Candy Land/Chocolate Factory. The ideas abound here but of course this is a fun way to incorporate traditional candies and desserts into your theme. I envision the attendees dressed up in their finest holiday attire, tables of candy and chocolate fountains for decor. This theme can be done very tastefully and elegantly with the right decor and attire.
🌟 Christmas Party Decorations
Using the themes above, the next thing to think about is decorations.
The Amazing Race theme might have tables decorated with Christmas decor from other countries. You could also make name tags our of the Amazing Race cards. For the Ugly Christmas sweater party you might decorate with traditional Christmas decorations, such as wreath centerpieces, candles etc. The Candy Land/Chocolate party will look great with colorful tables full of candies to grab and candy canes, big and small, around the room.
Places to look for decorations to purchase are Party City and other party stores. If you plan ahead, order online at Oriental Trading, or if you go to my blog on how to DIY Christmas Decorations which a good way to decorate on a budget.
✉️ Christmas Party Invitations
Your venue, theme, and decorations are chosen. Now of course you’ll want to invite people. Again planning ahead will be key if you want to go old school and mail invitations. I believe this is a wonderful way to spread cheer during the Holidays amidst all of the commercialism. Shutterfly and Vista Print are both excellent sites to get printed invitations made.
Of course, for those of you who are tech savvy and do not have time or money for printed invitations you can always invite friends and family through Facebook. The great thing with using FaceBook and Evite is you can invite as many people as you want, ask for RSVPS’s and get a good head count prior to the event with just a click of a button.
🧦 Christmas Party Attire
What to Wear? Chrismtas Party Attire is a hot topic for sure.
Your attire will differ depending on your theme. If you’re doing the amazing race theme you may want to keep it casual as folks will be in and out of cars and running around trying to collect clues. The ugly Christmas sweater theme makes the attire fairly obvious and keeps things casual as well. Finally, ff you’re doing the candy land/chocolate theme, that might be a great party for people to dress up.
If you are looking for a dress or a suit, something that’s dressier check out Dillard’s, Macy’s, and every now and then you can find a huge deal at Ross or TJ Maxx. Online go to Womens Day. Here they will put outfits together that you may already have hanging in your closet. You can mix and match and look, fantastic.
The next step you do not want to forget is your menu. People will remember your party for the theme and the food.
First things first – appetizers. I love finger food at big parties so that you can snack and mingle at the same time. Be sure to have out little plates by the appetizers so folks can grab and go. Spinach artichoke dip with chips and/or cut up bread is always a crowd pleaser and easy to make. Another great grab and go are Swedish Meatballs. Provide toothpicks for grabbing the meatball and then they can easily beset on small plates.
For the entree and main meal you can choose to have a sit down style meal or a buffet. If you have less people in attendance, the sit down and be served meal is a very nice treat for your guests especially this time of year. At the Davis Conference Center and other venues you can pay for the food to be prepared and served to your party.
Buffet style is a easy way to serve a big group and offer something for everyone. If you are looking to supply your own food remember to include meat (see my blog for where to buy a turkey near you). side dishes, vegetables and some type of roll or bread.
My best advise to DO NOT FORGET DESSERT. People love their sweets year round but during the holidays its free game for indulging in desserts. Again if you are providing your own food, there are several places you can go to where to purchase pre-made items. If you’re doing the candy land/chocolate fountain party, the dessert ideas are easy and self serve as well.
🎁 Christmas Party Favors
Finally, you will want to decide if you are going to give your guests party favors, These can be elaborate or a small token of appreciation for attending your party. A smaller group might allow you to go bigger with your favors, however in either case Oriental trading has great options and ideas. Two that caught my eye were the To go coffee cup with a lid which can easily be filled with small candies. Secondly, the snowman. Treat bags are a fun giveaway and can also be easily filled with whatever you want.
I hope this has helped you get started and hopefully organized for your Christmas party this year. Whether you’re doing it for the entire office or just a family affair there are some great ideas here.
