😛 Thanksgiving Activities for Toddlers
Who doesn’t love a good craft? Making the younger kids part of the decorating process can help them understand that Thanksgiving is a special day. When they see their home made turkey on the table they will beam with joy. Here is a good list of items to pick up at the craft store or find around the house that you can use for several crafts.
- Clothes pins
- Brown paper bags
- Colorful Feathers
- Toilet paper Rolls
- Colored Tissue paper
- Construction paper in different colors
- Elmers Glue
- Kid friendly scissors
Pin the Gobbler on the Turkey – Since turkeys already have feathers it might be more challenging to try to pin the Gobbler on the turkeys neck. For smaller kids, you could use the feathers from your crafts, blindfold them and have them stick the feathers on where they think a feather might go on a turkey.
Roll the Turkey– This easy game includes the construction paper from the crafts above and a set of dice. The idea is each time a person roll earns a part of a turkey and when you make a full turkey, you win. Click the name of the game for instructions.
Thanksgiving BINGO – A Thanksgiving twist on this classic game that is easy for everyone to participate in. Click on the name and you will find a printable version so you can print out as many as you need. Winner gets to do the dishes!
If you are ready for some peace and quiet there is no shame in popping a movie in for the little ones while you cook or are visiting at the table. These classics should give you an hour or so of “me” time.
A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving
This movie has been around forever but continues to be a crowd pleaser to this day. If you cannot find it on amazon or Netflix, try clicking here YouTube.
Not into dogs? How about cats? Garfield, the lasagna loving feline is hilarious in this Thanksgiving movie. The little ones will be enthralled and you might even laugh out loud too.
👸 Thanksgiving Activities for Teens
Dry Erase Board
Reminding pre-teens and teenagers that Thanksgiving is a time to be grateful for the people around them can be challenging on a good day. So why not have them do a craft that makes them think about it and write it down for everyone to see and share. Click the name to see how to create a Thanksgiving Dry Erase Board with printable versions they can put in any frame.
Thanksgiving Salt Dough Hearts
Since you all are in the kitchen anyway make a batch of salt dough. Hand it over to the teenagers to make meaningful and nice ornaments for the Christmas tree. It will keep them busy during Thanksgiving Day and they will be thrilled to hang up their hand made ornament on the tree in just a week or so – unless you are like my friend Mandy who already has her tree up.
Gobble the Corn
This game may end up with a bit of a mess but I believe the sheer entertainment factor might be worth it. Cook up several ears of corn and put them in separate bowls for each teen. Once you say go, the first Teen to eat their entire cob of corn WITHOUT THEIR HANDS wins!! You could do this in a relay team or just one on one. Sounds like a hoot to watch.
Toss the Egg
Whether you are in a warm climate or have snow on the ground, this game will get the teenagers out of the house. Make sure you have enough eggs for your pies and then send them out the door.
The rules go like this:
- Make teams of two players each and ask them to stand apart.
- Give one egg to each team and ask them to toss it between them.
- With each toss, ask the players to go back a step to make it more fun.
- In the end, the team that has the unbroken egg is the winner.
Be sure to “egg” them on as they head outside! HAHA
The Blind Side – Rent this movie on Netflix or Amazon if you have can. It stars Sandra Bullock, Quinton Aaron and Tim McGraw and is a wonderful movie to help remind teenagers how important family is. It will warm their hearts and you might even get a hug when its over.
Home Alone – This Oldie but goodie will make everyone laugh. Featuring a very young Macaulay Culkin, this movie is the story of a boy accidentally left home alone during the holidays and his efforts to foil some pretty silly criminals.
👨👩👧👦 Thanksgiving Activities for Families
This year thanksgiving is at your house – including the in-laws, nieces and nephews, cousins and grandparents. At some point there is lull and everyone gets bored of turkey and football. Here are some fun games the entire family can participate in to get through the day.
- Board Games are a no brainer – everyone has one and multiple people can play at once. Monopoly can take hours so make sure youre ready to invest some time if this one comes out. Scrabble takes some brains but even the smallest words can give you huge points.
- Take a Walk – If everyone is tired of being cooped up in the house a little fresh air and exercise can do wonders to lighten the mood and make room for dessert.
- Family Friendly Football – When a walk just isn’t enough, go find that pigskin and make two teams. I might recommend touch or flag football but if you think everyone can handle it, tackle is one way to let Cousin Joe know how you really feel. I am totally kidding – but you get where I am going with this.
- Charades is an all time favorite and everyone can play. Click the name to see different ways to play.
🦃 Thanksgiving is for Reflection
Thanksgiving is time for reflection and family. No matter what activities you come up with for your house full, be sure when you’re finally quiet and at the dinner table to play the game called Share Thanks. Before digging in go around the table and give everyone the opportunity to share what they are Thankful for. Everything will taste better!!
